My bro's BMW does the same thing and its not loud at all. It just has a REALLY deep tone to it at low rpm's.

yup... it's all about those deep vibrating tones... my old 77 vette with it's low compression ratio, no cats, and flow 40's... it'd set off plenty of alarms http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53CRR0VZZ0o
