Default 3.90's installed!

wow what a difference. upon removal of the stock gears we found out I had 2.73's!!! Only problem the installer had was the pinion shaft lock bolt snapped when he went to take it off, but somehow he was able to get the rest of it out and replace it. I know i've heard of a 500 mile break in period, but what exactly does this consist of? Is it just not stomping on the gas all the time or is there something more to it?

There is specific heating/cooling pattern (heat cycles)you should do...look it up. It's like drive 10 miles, stop for a few minutes, drive 30 miles, cool off again but I totally don't know exactly what itshould be. I've seen it somewhere..maybe the gear manufacturer's website? I think this would be an important step to set the gears right..do some research

This looks good enough for me:

1.
Insure that the axle has been filled to the correct level with
proper lubricant before driving the vehicle.

2.Bring the axle to normal operating temperature by driving the
vehicle for approximately 15 to 20 miles. Do not
run full throttle accelerations or create any shock loads.

3. Let the axle assembly cool completely.

4. For the next 200 miles of operation, drive gently, without any heavy loads

Different people believe different things.. I've read the break in is mostly for the new bearings, if you installed new bearings. The garage I went to said it'd be fine to beat on them from the start. I made like 3 10 mile trips with about a half hour inbetween each, then raised hell. They have never made any noise.

Didn't some SN95s come with 2.73s from the factory? Crazy how they make a slow car slower

Good tips here will have to keep that in mind when I get my gears installed.
