Default 4.10s and stock tires

I am really considering getting 4.10 gears for my 01 Mustang (Tremac 3650) but am concerned with getting no traction what-so-ever. Right now I get decent traction on dry pavement but not so good when it gets wet out. With stock Gatorback tires will I be out of control most of the time and make the 4.10s useless? How would they do with something like Sumitomos?

I have 4.10's on my 01 GT with a T-45, and when I first bought the car the tires were pretty bald on the rear, and then I would get very little traction, but if you have pretty good tread life left on your tires, or even get new tires (like I just did) you will get traction just fine. I have bolt ons, no FI, so I wouldn't know about that. So if you are stock or just have bolt ons then you will be fine if you have tread left. I have new Kumho Ecsta ASX's and they are decent tires, definitely not GREAT, but they get good traction with 4.10s.

traction control should help. 4.10s are always worth it. you might have to change your driving style a bit, i hear you go through first gear really quick. i'm ordering my 4.10s as soon as i cash a couple of checks. There are tires that can help on wet pavement but they aren't as good as the dry tires. just depends on what your needs are and maybe the climate.

5spd + 4.10 + Constant Forced Induction (i.e. Supercharger, Turbo) = limited traction out the @$$

Don't bother with Sumitomo tires. They're cheap, but not too good with the traction. I have trouble getting traction with the stock gears on a 285/35/18 tire.

Traction with 4.10's is somewhat limited. But you can learn to make the most of it with your driving abilities.

I went to the track the first time with 4.10's in my 5sp GT with 10% Tread life Winter tires and was only able to pull a 2.226 60'... but, that was my first time out..

it'll just take practice.. as for spipnning out of control and wrecking, thats all in your maturity level
