Default little help with the rear end

im bout the change my differential fluid and i ave a coupel questions, do the bolts need to be torqued to any special pound when putting the plate back on? what is the ratio of friction modifier to differential fluid? should i get a new gasket or just get sillicone?

any other tips are appreciated

I'm sure someone will say there is a torque spec, but whats inportant is the pattern that you tighten them in. Be sure to tighter in a star pattern cause that cover is weak and flexible, so you dont want to bend it. You need 4 oz of additive. It comes from the factory with silicon, but the kit i got came with a gasket so thats what i used, i think you would be safe either way.

I just used silicon and it works fine.. I word of advice on filling it though would be to take off the driver side rear tire and get a long flexable hose or funnel so you can just stick it in the whole and fill it in your fender well or out side ofthe car... its a pain in the A$$ to get that little bottle in there other wise.

Draining and Filling

[ol][*]
Raise vehicle to desired working height. [/ol]

Drain rear axle lubricant by removing axle housing cover .[/ol]
[*]
CAUTION: Make sure machined surfaces on both axle housing cover and rear axle housing (4010) are clean before installing the new silicone rubber. Inside of axle must be covered when cleaning the machined surface to prevent axle contamination. Tighten the cover bolts in a crosswise pattern to ensure uniform draw on axle housing cover .
NOTE: Axle housing cover must be installed within 15 minutes of the silicone rubber application or new silicone rubber must be applied.

Apply Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or -BA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M4G92-A and ESE-M4G195-A. Install axle housing cover . Tighten bolts to 27-37 Nm (20-27 lb-ft).

[/ol]
[*]
Add Premium Rear Axle Lubricant XY-80W90-QL or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSP-M2C197-A until it is 6-14 mm (0.250-0.562 inch) below bottom of fill hole. Add 118.2 ml (4 oz) of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification EST-M2C118-A for Traction-Lok® axles.[/ol]

You could also switch to Royal Purple and you would not need the Friction Modifier.
