Thermostat Question???

Hey guys, I am about to purchase a diablosport predator tuner from rpm outlet and they are giving me a choice of free thermostat with it. I can either get a 160 degree or a 180 degree. Is there any benefit to changing out my stock thermostat to one of these? If so which one should I choose and what are the benefits???

RE: Thermostat Question???

I would go with the 180. Im no expert on this but i think the 160 is gonna be good for high, high horse applications. Motors are made to be run with a certian level of heat, so dont go to low or you could damage engine components. If you put to large a thermostat on, the coolant will run to fast and the vehicle will actually overheat. Its happened to a few on this forum. The 180 on a street machine would be plenty. As for the benefits, as said before the thermostat will just allow coolant to flow more quickly which if you have the proper size will allow the motor to run at a cooler level. You can gain a few ponies from it because of the decreased engine temps. If its free, go with the 180 deg. thermo.

RE: Thermostat Question???

acutally it don't let it flow more a 160 degree thremostat will open at 160 degrees see that is the temp rating not a flow rating the thermostat will stay closed until the engine coolant reaches the certain temp range so the car will warm up faster but once it get to that certain temp the thermostat will open causeing the coolant to stay around that temp and a 160 will be fine just make sure if ya get a tuner set the temp for the fans to turn on cooler so the thermostat and the cooling fans will not be working against each other hopefully this will help you some
