question for a select few.
okay, im not sure how many people have done this, i just know that some have. i kind of want to swap my 4.6 for an ls1. I was just wondering what all was needed, and how much the installation and all that costs before the motor expense. i found a good deal on a motor, tranny, and wiring harness, so i thought i might pass it buy some of you who might have some knowledge on the matter.

RE: question for a select few.
I cant say on a mustang, but i can say from putting a LS1 in a few thirdgen firebirds that it is a pain in the *** [:@].We had to fabricate everything.I'm assming that it would be an even bigger pain going into a mustang. If you can get a good deal on the motor i say buy it and then sell it for parts. You could probably get a good bit for it on ebay being a complete motor.
I would do that and save up for a supercharger for the 4.6

first of all thats blasphemy wanting a GM motor in a ford. second like stated above it would take alot of $$$ and custom fabing.
if you want a ls1 just go out and buy a fbody or vette. if you want a "fast" mustang, there are plenty of options that dont include switching platforms (for the same budget as a motor swap).

RE: question for a select few.
yeah, but if i can get everything done for less than the cost of a KB, i'll be very happy, because then i can get a big cam and have it installed, and be pushing near 400whp.

RE: question for a select few.
just imagine an ls1 in a mustang, that would be SWEET. probaly not worth the money though. why dont you just sell the setup you got, and put that towards a built motor and tranny for your car.

RE: question for a select few.
In a weird way it would be cool. It's a good motor and the Mustang is a good looking car. You can't fix ugly(F-Bodies) but you can give the Mustang a type of motor it deserved. That being said putting a GM into a Ford will attract a lot of haters...
