Well that brings up another point. My car didn't run this morning. It started, idled for like 2 seconds, dropped rpms then shut off.I havn't done anything to it except for remove the spark plug and disconnect both the injector and spark wires. As a test, last night my uncle whos a genius mechanic just placed a plug in the hole, and had me start it with the coil off. It shot through like a bullet and shattered on the ground. That means the plug isn't hitting the piston, which is a relief.

My dad found a company that makes specialty tools for Mustang up in San Jose, CA. He needs to take a look at the engine to know exactly what type of tool needs to be used, as Ford made 3 different type of thread for the new edge GT's that were drilled at random. The difference is very minute, but it could cost me my motor if I get the wrong type. Still waiting on that.

Meanwhile, Ford called back and asked me to stop by tomorrow and maybe negotiate the price.

I still think that the safest way is gonna be to remove the heads. What caused this? how common is this problem?

Well, mines not that bad,I can put a plug in without it falling. But the welding idea sounds like a good plan. I don't have a welder here, but maybe my autoshop teacher can help me out with that. I thought about welding it, but I never heard of anybody ever actually doing it like that.

4.698 GT, can you go a little more into detail about your procedure?
Well the Heli Coil kit i bought was a 12x1.5 I believe. We had to grind the top of the tap down a little to get it to fit. My friend welded a steel rod he had laying around to the tap. Just a couple of taps of the welder and it was on there tight. I then took the spark plug out and just inserted the tap into the spark plug hole, Had a little bit of grease to catch some of the shavings and just rethreaded the hole. If I remember correctly, the helicoil had a little threadlocker and I applied that to the outside of the helicoil. I threaded the helicoil onto the die and got it to set into the head. I removed the thread, vacuumed the head up, removed w/e grease was in there and let the whole thing set(24 hours). I then put a new sparkplug in and fired it up. Has runned like a charm since.

Wow! Thanks a lot JP! Great thing is that the company is based about 30 miles from my house! But where can I buy it?

4.698GT, Thanks for the procedure. I was a bit confused about this step: "I threaded the helicoil onto the die and got it to set into the head."

Dude everyone has told me you cant re thread a mustang head. Itll ruin the inegrity if you try to. Thats why i have to get new heads. When my plug blew it blew so bad it took out all the threads. The plug just drops right through to hole thats how bad it is!
you need new sources for info.
thousands have done this to 2V heads and alot of race car teams will install them in every plug hole to have more threads for the plugs to grab and not chance ruining a set of heads with countless hours of R&D.

I was talking to a garage owner friend of mine over Christmas and he was telling me that he sees a lot of F150's with the 4.6 blowing plugs. He says they get a few every month and they heli coil them with no problem.

Check around at all the local shops.

I don't like taking my car to ford. I've never done it.

I'd rather take my car to a shop that services STRICTLY mustangs, camaros, & corvettes. If your in the chicagoland are speed inc. isreally good...

I threaded the new threads onto the die, Meaning the piece that is going to go into the head and stay there. It stil sounds confusing but its the thread insert
