Default Ford wants $1200.00!!!

To re-thread using a heli-coilmy drivers side heads spark plug!!!!

That is completly outrageous [:@]. There is nobody else that has the right tool for the job becuase the spark plugs are so deep. Anybody ever heard of a Mustang spark plug re-threader?

Now I gotta tow my car back home, and then somewhere else. I can't believe this!!! I'm on a rant here. I just installed my MGW and I havn't even been able to try it out yet. Unbelievable...

Sorry guys I just had to vent.

yeah i'm pretty sure you buy a heli coil yourself. I know a lot of people here have done it them selves and said it was pretty easy just use a lot of grease or oil to catch the shavings

But which helicoil fits the Mustangs heads? There are tons of them that are the right size, but are too big in circumference to fit the hole, or they arn't long enough. That the main question.

You need to jury rig a little bit. When it happened to me, I welded a rod to the tap and slid it down into the hole then jury rigged a small piece of rubber tubing to a vacuum to make sure everything got out of the cylinder.

Dude everyone has told me you cant re thread a mustang head. Itll ruin the inegrity if you try to. Thats why i have to get new heads. When my plug blew it blew so bad it took out all the threads. The plug just drops right through to hole thats how bad it is!

Well, mines not that bad,I can put a plug in without it falling. But the welding idea sounds like a good plan. I don't have a welder here, but maybe my autoshop teacher can help me out with that. I thought about welding it, but I never heard of anybody ever actually doing it like that.

4.698 GT, can you go a little more into detail about your procedure?

I had the same problem in mine and I had a mustang shop by my house do a heli-coil and they charged 180.00 dollars and I never had anymore problems. My plug would also just dropthrough also but they fixedand I had no more problems.1200 dollars is outrageous.

I had that problem in my Camaro, I couldnt Helicoil it on the car, it wouldnt take.... so I stripped it down, removed the head, and took it to a machine shop and had them do it. Im SURE Ford would remove the head to do it... doing it while the head is still on the car is the fast, backyard mechanic way. You are better off removing the head and just taking the head to a machine shop, this way you have NO DOUBT that you don't get any metal shavings in the motor. Im sure ford would be cheaper if they had to just Re-machine the head and not tear it all down! Why tow your car though? Drive the Damn thing! You shouldnt do any damage driving around missing a spark plug.... will be a bit noisy... but noise is all!
