98 GT w/ some tranny questions.......
 

Hey, I just bought a 98 GT & I Love this car to say the least.
Coming from four cylinder engines ( RSX Type S, GTI, MazdaSpeed
Protégé, which I still own ) is a big Change.
Here’s my Question/Problem: First, Second & third gears are very hard to get in the gates. I literally have to shift to fifth gear & come back into first gear from a stop, if it‘s rolling I can get into first easier. Second & third gear also give me trouble.
I’m thinking synchronizers or driveshaft bearing, maybe even a problem with a shift fork. Any ideas?
Also the idle drops to the point of almost shutting off, then it comes back & sits at 700/800rpm, at times it dose fully shut off.
The car came with a K&N intake everything else is stock. Thanks for any info.

How many miles on the car? The synchros are probably just worn out. It's usually the reason for it being hard to shift. About the idle issue, try replacing the fuel filter. It's an often overlooked maintenance necessity.
