Gears essentially multiply the power your car is making. The lower the gear you get (higher numerically), the faster you car is going to accelerate at any speed. Even with 4.10's you should be able to hit 150mph and do it much faster than if you were to have a taller gear. The only thing I can think of is if you were spinning more, but you said you guys went from a pretty fast roll, so I don't know what the deal is. Maybe he is a better driver?

do you have gears? 4:10's? you WONT hit 150 in 4th. i will not go into 5th when im racing its just dumb. i dont like goin that fast on the street anyways. talk when you have the gears. im tired of people telling me **** like im dumb or somthing and i dont know anything about my car when the stuff they are tellin me they dont even have on their car. Dan im not takling abotu you, you made a good point. but we have pretty much the same mods its just that last tiny bit in the race is where he excels and you can tell he has more gear then me.

Easy there cowboy. I had gears in my old Mustang, I know how they work. And I also know that you will not hit 150 in fourth gear, hell, I can't go much over 130 in fourth with the stock gears I have in this Mustang. However, you shouldn't need to go into fifth when racing your buddy, everyone knows that the race is over for us once we max out fourth gear. That being said, I don't understand what your problem is. If you have 4.10s, you should be ahead of him by the end of the 1/4 mile, and unless you cross the traps at around 108 or so, you shouldn't be worrying about it.

you dont understand what i was saying. we were racing from a high roll. prolly about 50 or 60. that means i barly have any of 3rd left and have to go into 4th right when the race starts. not much room for error there. so its def not a drivers race. i can beat him from a slower roll. maybe when we start in second.

Ok, I didn't realize you were starting from that high up. You still out pull him through all of fourth though, don't you? And yeah, just going into fourth is far from a driver's race. Again, my bad.

How would 4.10's slow you down from a roll? I don't quite understand what is so difficult to grasp about the concept of gears for everybody here.

A shorter rear gear will make your car accellerate faster than a taller rear gear in ANY GIVEN SCENERIO. No need for further replies.

Going from 3.73 to 3.90's wouldn't be worth it unless you are doing the swap yourself. Compensate with a taller tire, LCA's & be a REAL GEAR HEAD and go with 4.30's and leave nothing on the table.
if you go from a 20-25 roll, stock gears have advantage, as they are in the power band in 1st, your out of your powerband in 2nd.

4.10's give you a bad start if you start at the same speed as a stock gears sweet spot, but you catch up pretty quick

Well, do you guys have essentially the same mods, or does he have any extras that could make up a bit of the difference in the gearing?
