Default Switching from regular to synthetic

Can switching from regular to synthetic really hurt your engine or is this simply a rumor? My friends Integra has been run on normal oil for the first 100k miles of its life. Could he just start with synthetic?

Technically, yes. It's fine to switch. Although... It's thinner. It may leak more than the regular oil would. They say that when you use Synthetic, the oil gets to the top of the engine must quicker and lubes the top of the motor and leaves a synthetic oil film. If your buddy ever wants to switch back from synthetic to regular oil, make sure it's in the summer time so the oil would be at it's thinnest.

If your friend's enginehas any signs of misting or weeping around the sealsthey may develop into full-fledged leaks when synthetic oil is used--this does not always happen, however my experience is that it happens more often than not. The good news is that switching back to dino fixes things up 9 out of 10 times...

There is nothing to worry about switching to synthetic.

"They say" "Ive Heard" "It might"

I've yet to see any REAL proof that switching can cause leaks/damage. Everything negative you will hear about switching will usually start with the above in itallics.

Switching won't be the cause of any leaks. If there is pre-existing leaks or oil burning, synthetic oil will probably leak or burn more.

So...again - if there is existing leaks...they will more than likely become more obvious when using synthetic ...and again, synthetic oil will never be the cause of a leak or oil consumption!
