When you're on the strip , what do you guys shift at a lil over 5k or go to right around redline? I wanna get the best track times possible for the car any feedback would be appreciated.

Default shifting point?

Good questions.

I'm new to 5 speeds, I got the shifting down pat, took about 1 day to figure out how to rip it

But, I take it to redline 1st to 2nd & 2nd to 3rd I take it to 5k.

Someone else willing to give us some pointers?

Default shifting point?

i got a bad habit of wanting to redline through every gear, but ive noticed once i hit 3rd, the power seems to drop off after i get above 5K, so next time i go to the track i'll try hitting 3rd and 4th just as i pass 5K, and let my engine torque do the work.

Here's the best shift point in any motor:

You want to shift that when you slam into the next gear, you land right on your peak torque (or horses if your peak torque is say....damned low).

I shift at redline, slam it, and land at 4800 RPM....exact peak torque.

Why doesn't someone get a dyno graph of a stock gt, get the gear ratios, and calculate the ideal shift points for each gear? Then everyone can see and know the best points, and there can be no debate... except if you are modded, it will change your shift points differently depending on how you mod.

good rule of thumb is to shift approximately 10% or so above your peak numbers. In the case of a fairly stock 4.6 you'll want to shift around 5500 to 5700. That will get you shifting from right after the falloff from peak to right before the peak for the next gear.
