I thought that around 2k rpm it sounds awesome. When you get on it, yes obnoxious is the word until you have a friend with Loudmouth II mufflers on who goes Sreamin by. My boy has those and it's unreal, makes mine sound like stockers!lol I have a hard to find STAINLESS STEEL O/R X-pipe for sale. It's Brand New and only been on my car for less than 100 miles. I painted it with High temp 1500deg. ceramic paint before I installed. Selling because I bought LT's and need a new X-pipe Fits all 96-04 shorty style!
You need an X-pipe ? https://mustangforums.com/m_2571537/...tm.htm#2576759

I have o/r X with SLP original loud mouth exhaust...the one with only the resonator. It is LOUD..and I know the "metellic" sound you speak of!! I recently installed some JBA shorty headers and it actually is quieter. With a much nicer sound. When you get above 4 grand, it's pure music to my ears....
Yeah I've got a feeling that with some better tuned manifolds/headers it wouldnt be so tangy..

Yeah that sound was one of a kind as all the X-pipes... Mine was / is a BBK never had any issues with them other than the loudness of this X-pipe.I truely believe with some long tube headers or even good Shorties this unruley twangy sound at certain RPM's wouldnt have been an isssue.

I also have the BBK o/r x-pipe and am not all that happy with it. It does sound good under hard accel but it has that tingy sound at certain RPMs and when decelerating. I read somewhere that it has something to do with coupling the pipe with Flowmasters which is what I have but it sounds like a few people have this problem with other muffler setups. I also noticed that it causes the exhaust to hang down lower than I'd like. Does anyone else with the BBK have that problem? Taking it off this spring so I can install lowering springs.

Damn man.. Same **** here.Yup Hung low had to force that puppy to sit where it should. That outlet by where the flow tubes meet does get a tad smaller when hitting into the flow tubes that could have something to do the sound.it cuts down to almost a half inch smaller at that point. But I really think its got alot to do with the stock manifolds.Could be wrong Id like to know if anyone with stock manifolds does run an X and doesnt have any strange sound issues.

I have an o/r xpipe and 40 series Flowmaster cat back and I love the sound. It sounds good throughout the rpm's. Ive had several compliments from different people. Alot of LSx guys compliment the sound too.

I've got MAC cat back with o/r x and it sounds pretty good, wish it wasnt auto though, but its loud, deep, and has a lil rasp to it, only at low rpms though
