Launch teniques

RE: Launch teniques
launch just like you normaly would at a stop light except much more aggressively...then drive it like its stolen. Reving up and dumping the clutch is most likely just going to result in a huge puff of white smoke and you will still be sitting at the line.

A buddy with an 01 cobra with full exhaust dumped the clutch and blew the tranny - 3 days after owning it

im confused on how exactly you would execute a safe launch with a manual trans, being i drive an auto [:'(]. what do you do? like steps please, if someone would explain it. i know you you rev it and drop the clutch... but can i have more detail?

It's basically like going from a normal stop except as fast as possible. There aren't many techniques, you just have to have a great feel for your car. Like was said above, if you just rev it and dump the clutch you're gonna burn out and not go anywhere. As soon as the tires get grip and roll then light it up.

Your goal in launching a manual is the same as an automatic: Start the car as high in the rpm's as possible without making your tires break traction. The clutch is merely another component to the launch. How you let off the clutch and how high you rev the car depends on what clutch you have in the car. For example, a Spec Stage 3 clutch grabs a LOT harder than a stock clutch, and does not have a lot of play. Due to this, even if you try and slip a spec 3 (let off the clutch slowly instead of dumping) It would be the equivalent of dumping a stock clutch, because it grabs so quickly and hard. Every car launches differently. You need to find the best combo of slipping for your clutch, the best RPM range to launch at, in conjunction with how stick your tires are so you hook instead of breaking traction. The only way to find this out is to practice over and over again. Also, dont let the clutch out too slowly, your just wasting clutch then.

You don't drop the clutch. No need. Roll on the throttle as you roll off the clutch. Timed right, there will be no bog and no spin. Our cars will be running 30ish MPH at 4k in 1st (been a while since I drove mine...so the memory is fading), if you drop the clutch, something is either going to be going fast enough to go 30(spin or break) or bog.

As stated above it is just a matter of control and your particular car. With regular street tires you will essentially want to probaby bring the RPM's up to about 2K, then let the clutch out in a controlled motion, not real fast, not real slow, at the same time getting into the gas, not stomping into it, but not too slow either. Practice doing this and you'll eventually find the balance that needs to be attained for your car.
