I recently have been having a problem with the stang, it will run a while and quit i have to keep at it till it starts again. It blowed abit of black smoke, its gotten worse now, it blows a lot of black smoke and finally throwed a CEL for MAF sensor, so i changed it and reset the ecu. Its still doing it but not as bad. Any ideas??? Maybe Temp sensor? This is a 2001 Gt[align=left] [/align]

how many miles on your engine? black smoke always indicates oil in exhaust

Could be either...a rich condition could be caused be several,several things...did the check engine light come back on?if so ,,is it the MAF again?Idle real ruff?did you do a once over for vaccum leaks?yes an ectsensor can cause this,,also a skewed 02 sensor reading very lean,,,iac motor suck open,an injector stuck wide open,...another bad maf,,possibilities are endless...Sorry.....without a scanner of some type,,someone who knows what they are looking at,, it might be difficult to find..

You may have a fouled O2 sensor. Get the codes pulled somewhere. When the O2 sensor fouls, it causes the car to run rich and idle rough.

well I'm glad that there are people who have passed english. But oil causes more of a blue-ish smoke, while black smoke can be cuased by an improper fuel/air mixture. If you do not have any type of programmer/code reader, then I advise you to take a trip down to a ford dealership for a diagnostic.

negative. burning oil has a tint of blue.

autozone will check codes for free. my guess would be a fried 02 sensor

+1 on the bluish tint smoke is from oil. Black is arich condition. You do need to take it somewhere and have someone run a diagnosis on it. Could be several things.
