Default Grinding in second

I have an 02 GT w/ 12000 miles on it. For somereason, when it shifts into second (from first), it grinds if done quickly. If I were to wait untill the rpms go down then shift, there is no grinding. Downshifting from third is no problem either. No noise at all. I think the problem lies when i put the car into first. If I am still rolling and I put the car in first (w/ clutch still in), the transmission winds like crazy untill I stop. Does anyone else have this problem or do I have some kind of transmission problem?

Thanks,
Vic

have you been doing any power-shifting lately?? seems like some signs of a beat tranny. a poor syncro is to blame.

That seems like what i've been reading. No, I have been doing no powershifting. I really dont know if my car is still under warrenty though. How much do you think it would cost to replace the syncros?

Thanks

syncro/transmission rebuild kit costs about 120-150 if you really shop around. But you need someone to drop the tranny and basically rebuild it so labor is going to cost alot more than the parts. Expect to spend about 300-500 on labor, depending on your area.

My '01 GT with 75k does the same thing, from 3rd to 4th. It's weird - if I'm just cruising around shifting normally it never happens. When I'm racing and shifting as fast as I possibly can, it never happens. But when I'm trying to shift fast, and half-assing it, it will grind when pounding it into 4th. Really weird. It probably needs to be rebuilt. Will leaving it as is cause any problems as long as I'm not grinding it?
