Default IRS drivetrain loss?

I was reading in the S/S section about some stupid LS1 argument. They said that a LS1 vette will dyno lower than a LS1 Fbody b/c ofIRS.

Does IRS really cause lower rwhp? If so, how much?

There are more moving joints on an IRS. For every joint you have you have friction loss. Thats why a 4wd truck dynos lower than a 2wd truck even if they are the exact same.

Well comparing between straight axle and IRS, yes there should be some horsepower loss because you are adding more moving parts. How much? I haven't a clue.

I have to disagree with you guys on the more moving parts theory. they both have a diff that either spins 2 axle shafts or they spin 2 half shafts. I would lean toward Rotating Mass being the culprit of less HP from the same engine. I guess the only was to know is if someone dynoed with a IRS and than pulled it dynoed with a solid axle and compare.

Yes but the IRs has pivot points and the Solid axle doesnt. It pivots on the joints where as a solid is straight. That is more moving parts.

Not sure how many Vette owners would swap their IRS for a live axle lol, but from what I hear there are some Cobra Terminator owners that have done this swap. Maybe find one of those guys for the compare differences
