2004 4.6 gt 5 speed manual. 50,000 miles. Sounds like a diesel under low rpm load. Makes sound in any gear clutch in or out. Even at idle in neutral it'll make the sound for a quick second when you blip the throttle.
Car sat for 12 years so I figured it was spark knock. I drained old gas, filled with premium (ouch!!) Added a can of berrymans down the throttle body. Once that was all done I put in new motorcraft plugs and replaced two torn coil boots. Also changed the horrible chinesium cone air filter that was installed by the PO. Still makes the same sound but it definitely runs smoother and more responsive now.

Any ideas? I posted in another section of this forum aw days ago but didn't get a reply. Figured I'd try here before going to a different message board. Thanks for any ideas!

My guess would be the timing chain(s) are hitting the timing cover. How's your oil pressure?

It sits a little right of center, no number on the gauge but it's definitely got strong oil pressure.
