Default Enging Reving without acc.

My daughter called me about her 2000 mustang 4.6L. She told me that she has had issues lately with the car reving up without her pressing the accellerator. She said that she can be sitting in a parking lot at a standstill with the clutch pushed in and the car will go up to as high as 2500 RPM's, then it will come back down after some amount of time.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The first link seems to refer to people having their cars die on them. The second is some type of modification. Did I miss something. Could a car rev up on it's own due to a bad IAC?

Thanks.

Its either the IAC, or maybe the TPS. Both are fairly simple fixes, and the IAC rev mod ROCKS!

Lol its a joke.. When your TPS gets dirty or something interferes, it sometimes causes your idle RPM's to shoot up to like 3k or something.. my friend went off roading with his Ranger a few weeks ago, and it started idling at 3500 RPMs.. no joke. He drove out of first gear without touching the gas pedal lol.

Its probably the TPS ( Throttle position Sensor). They run you like 50-60 bucks at your local pep boys.

Thanks for all the replies. Is there a way to test the TPS to see if it's bad?
