Mach1, Cobra, or new GT?
Hi guys, I'm a newbie here and I just joined the army. by the time I get out of all my training and such, I will have enough money saved to buy either of these.
I was kinda looking towards the mach1's because they have a posi rear-end? and if I put a charger on it, equal to the eaton that's on the cobra, it should outrun it right? Doesn't the cobra have the LS rearend? Is the cobra heavier than the mach 1?
My basic dilemma here is which one is the best bang for the buck for +500 hp and 11s?? It'll be about May '05 before I get one of these. I'm selling my '93 Prelude. Great car, btw.

I agree... the mach1 is lighter but it has an aluminum block... i dont belive the cobra's is.... which makes it able to push out more psi... the cobra has forged internals and such so it is already blower friendly, cause it comes with one haha... I've heard bad things about mach1's with blowers... Just get a cobra of your gonna s/c it.

The block doesnt make a difference really, other than weight... the pistons & rods in the Cobra are much stronger and produce a lower compression ratio - so the Cobra can handle MUCH more boost, about twice as much to be exact. Considering the Cobra is only a few thousand more, it will be a much better choice for what you want.

I thought the aluminum block isnt able to handle as much. It was a while ago, but i know i've seen pics of mach1 blocks with s/c's on them.. where the block cracked.. and even blew apart in 2 cylinders.
I maybe wrong.. but thats what I thought.

"Considering the Cobra is only a few thousand more"
A cobra is more then just a few gs more. Your prolly looking at 5 more at least. But its worth it. If i woulda went with the svt it would of been about 8 grand more.

Thanks for the replys guys. I would wait to see what new '06 (badged '07) model SVT had to offer, but as soon as I get out of training, I won't have a car. My brother gets my ride when I leave.
Since it is the lighter machine (the mach1) and cheaper, how much harder would it be to build up the bottomend for more boost? Are their aftermarket parts out there available? (girdles and stuff) Is the cobra easy to put on a diet, or is it stuck being near 2 tons?
Am I going to spend as much money modding the M1, when I could have a just-as-fast cobra?? Is there a different way?
Sorry, this is like 20 questions.
