The intake is actually the main chokepoint in a NPI engine. If you look at the manifolds side by side, you can easily see the difference, even without going into flow measurements. The biggest difference to me personally, is the fact that the PI manifold lets you pull right to redline, instead of having the torque curve go flat at 5000 like the NPI intake does.
