Default Painting Carbon Fiber Hoods

Anyone ever paint their carbon fiber hoods? Does it still show the "Fibers" through the paint or no?

Yeah you can paint C/F hoods, and unless its clear- there shouldnt be any fibers showing through.

Yes you can. Just like fiberglass, sand,prime...then it's good to go.....

why would you wanna paint it tho? are you paint it partial and leave some of the carbon expose?

Well I'm just not really digging the carbon on black car look..... But it maybe because I haven't seen any good angle shots of it either.

ok this has been my plan for YEARS....on mustangs i dont like the bare CF...it is OK on imports though (NOT ricers...IMPORTS!)....and i don't like the way the 1/2 painted 1/2 bare style looks in those pics either

VIS CF Cobra R cowl hood...twin 40th anniversary style stripes starting at the front of the grill and extending back...however...the stripes i will paint 85% opaque black...and everything else i will paint 85% matching laser red...so from far away it will look like a regular cowl hood with twin black stripes...but up close and personal you will be able to tell it is CF...kinda like "ghosted stripes"

then on the roof black stripes continuing back

then VIS OEM CF trunklid with the same treatment as the hood...with the stripes ending on the top edge of the trunklid (where the 3rd brakelight is) and they will be nice and rounded off on the corners of the stripes...everything else on the top flat surface of the trunklid 85% opaque laser red

to finish up...the center section between the tailights...it will be painted 85% black so the CF fiber shows through again...in my head it will look SICK...but it will cost a PRETTY PENNY to have all that masking/prepping/paintwork done on the already expensive CF

__________________________________________________ _________________________

now this can be done even with black...however i would change it a little

depending on the style of hood you have...i would do the CF hood and trunk and paint a 100% opaque 1" line all the way around the edge of the hood and trunklid...then for the rest...paint it 85% opaque so again up close you can still barely see the CF...that would be SICK IMO...i know this is hard to picture too...but if you really think about it it would look AWESOME!
