Default clutch Identification

When I first bought my car it had 102000 miles and the first time I tried to drive it (he wanted me to spin the tires and I couldn't do it). So he drove it and smoked em' like crazy and then we smelled clutch so we tought the clutch was almost gone. Now that I can drive now I run it pretty hard somethimes and have never smelled clutch since. I heard that when you get a new clutch you will smell it every now and then. I have only driven one other mustang and that was a 5.0 and its clutch is way easier to push in. I also have felt my dads bullitts' clutch and it is softer thanmine. I am now convinced that it is a new clutch and wanted to know how I can find out what brand because I figure it isn't a stock replacement

So on the test drive the guy not only told you to beat the **** out of his car but also beat the **** out of it with you in the passenger seat? I dont know what is dumber him trying to sell you it by showing how little he cares about treating it right or the fact that you still bought it. You only smell clutch under 2 circumstances #1 you are racing the **** out of it, nearly going to redline and dropping the clutch over and over or #2 you dont know how to drive a stick worth a damn. Either case the reason you smell it is because you are burning it up which means you better start saving for a new one. With 100k+ and a previous owner like you mentioned you might as well get a new clutch before this one gives out.

Take the tranny off. You may beable to take the clutch cable cover off on the transmission and get a flashlight and look in. I dunno if youll beable to see anything though.

well if it is the stock clutch it is going to need to be changed. but if it is after market it is probably a king cobra. that is the most common aftermarket clutch for the t-45

wow what a dick!! who said anything about a test drive?? I had already bought the car. I meant that when you get a new clutch you might smell it becasue of the break in period. read the post again, I am trying to figure out my new clutch. You drive a mustang but you get mad when other people drive their mustangs hard? Why don't you just buy an oldsmobile
