Hands down..The DOHC has more potential in a maxed out situation....just look at the head Flow and anyone that knows can see where they differ the most....HEADS...But ,,I had to choose ,,98 cobraowned by a young kid for 10k with 54 on the clock(I really wanted the EDGE body style)...or what I have now 99 high mileage car 4500..plus the s/c for 2500.00,set of wheels 1100,and gears and exhaust another 500.00....with all maitanace records and 75 k bein highway driven by a lady..Well.I've got a 99.....SOHC....that will spank that cobra dollar for dollar any day..The SOHC motor can and does make a nasty street car if F/I.....I've got Proof... just dont race any S/C cobras.....

i can agree that the 4 valves can flow more. but for the price, you can make a 2 valve much more powerful. look at what is available for it.

The difference is that a 2v is tapped out much earlier then a 4v... you can have a 4v out around 600rwhp without any issues, on pump gas. Try that with a 2v 281cid engine, not that easy.

hmm must be easy to find good SN95 Cobras in tampa.. i almost bought a 96' Mystic with 30xxx miles on it for 6200 and was in pretty good condition, everything look fine with normal 11 year old wear and tear...

and tell me what it would cost to build up a 600hp N/A DOHC motor. seriously. if your gonna sit there and tell me that it cost less to build a 4 valve motor with that much power, you are full of it. Its just so much cheaper to build a nice little SOHC motor and plop a little blower on it and make more than that.

MPH has a stock heads/stock intake custom cam car (plus all the boltons) with a Novi 2000 kit making 601 WHP on 93 octane.

Its not hard to make 600 WHP in a 2v, so long as you can swallow buying the shortblock.

If you already have a good 2v in the engine bay, and your plan is to go FI, it does not make since to do a 4v swap unless you are going to exceed about 650 WHP. The additional cost of buying the 4v, all accessories required to get it to run, and acutally getting it in the car make it much more expensive.

Put it this way, unless you get a 03/04 cobra setup (big bucks there) your getting basically the same shortblock as a 2v (the crank is different, but the weak spot is the rods anyway). Both engines are tapped out around 450 WHP before you need to forge the shortblock so that additional cost is figured into both builds. The 3-5K on the motor/computer you are going to spend could be going to a very nice supercharger setup. Which would you rather have, a n/a 4v swapor a blown built 2v ?
