Your answers are yes, the 5.0's have more power, more torque, they are easier to modify and they weigh less (yeah they have more cubes, but less overall engine bulk...but only by like 50-100lbs if i remember) than the modular 4.6L...why'd they do it? my guess would be production cost

if you are looking for basic information (HP, torque, curb weight, etc) the best place to go is edmunds.com

these are the specs for the 1995s :
http://www.edmunds.com/used/1995/for...648/specs.html

these are the specs for teh 1996s:
http://www.edmunds.com/used/1996/for...255/specs.html

these are the specs that came from ford when the car first came out. Also at the top is a drop down box that lets you jump from year to year so you can come all years. After you choose the year you want, on the left hand side of the screen is a link to specs. Click that and you will get exactly what you want and more

i guess i will try to find a 95with low miles then
**** i have been looking for a v6 2000 because i thought the insurance was less than the GT's
apparently i didn't take into consideration the extra years and how the 95 's cost less.

But in 99 to 2004 they have more hp then the 5.0 when they went up to 260hp and the 05s are still 4.6liters and they have 300hp.

They didnt switch because of production costs, if anything the 5.0 would be cheaper to produce. The 4.6 is just a more advanced and now a more efficent engine then the old 5.0s.

i went from a four cylindar jeep 1993 to my 1998 GT and my insurance only went $7 a year... i think the insurance company fluked somewhere but i will take it... i would call and just get quotes on the cars that you are looking at and see what they say

so,
i'm looking at the specs and it looks like the 1996-1998 actually is better than the 1995 even thought the 1995 has the 5.0 liter, and the 1995 weighsover 200 lbs. more than the 1996.
what do yall think i should get performance wise???
i plan on getting mods such as gears, cai, etc.
would the 95 respond better to mods or should i just get the 96 - 98 4.6 liter???????????

The 5.0 will respond much better to simple mods such as intake and exhaust. The best mod for a 96-98 GT is a PI swap which is a head swap over to 99+GT heads so it will have 260+HP and respond better to the mods.

And a 1995 Coupe and a 1996 Coupe dont have a 200lb weigh difference. The Vert and Coupe have a 200lb difference though.
