Holy mother of exhst leaks

RE: Holy mother of exhst leaks
I tell ya, I am tempted!
But since there's snow everywhere, I have the time to do a little more trouble shooting before Spring. Plus its FREE, well sort of, not including random trips to Autozone to find various fixes.

I went to Pepboys and looked through their assortment of high temp mufflre/exhaust reaparing gel/goop crap. They have the tape too or whatever the hell it does... eitehr way, I don't want this crap to become a permanant part of my midpipe.

Summit or JEGS should sell "dead soft" gaskets for that location. Yep, JEGS has them for $14.99 a pair. They come in 2.5", 3" And, 3.5" tHEY ARE MADE FROM SOFT ALUMINUM AND ARE GAURANTEED NOT TO BLOW OUT. THEY ALSO HAVE MR. GASKETS VERSION, Copper seal for a buck more. These should take up any reasonable gaps but not sometyhing like 1/4"! Good Luck and let us know how they work if you get them. mark

RE: Holy mother of exhst leaks
i would try using the air tools to do it... i know i torque down all my flanges with air tools and they are on very good... although, i took off the header gasket yesterday and it has a hole about 1 inch wide blown through it in cylinder number 8... i thought percys gaskets weremade stronger?

Percy's standard header gaskets for $15. a pair are not nearly as good as their dead soft aluminum gaskets that are $34.95 even though they advertise them being able to withstand 2000*. I prefer the "dead soft" gaskets myself. mark

I went to Pep Boys too, for the two condensation leaks I also have at the rear two mufflers. I will slip this collar/band over the joint, then probably doulbe u-bolt clamp it down (make shift band clamp they don't have). Maybe also coat the edges with the Hi-Temp RTV I have before slipping the band over it. Then hopefully no more leaks there.
As for the header leak(s). I'm still not sure where it's comming from. I thought it was the Driver side, but I can't feel or see it after trying soapy water and blowing smoke in the area. I will try a Seafoam suggestion, as soon as I find out what that is...
