Same thing happened to me. The deep socket was too long and the regular impact socket too short. I then tried a craftmanschrome socket (not deep, 15mm 1/2" drive socket) and it seated fine, so I used that with the impact wrench.
When the deep sockets are too deep, just drop in a short socket that is small enough to fit inside the deep socket and take up some of the extra space. I had to do that with my x-pipe install and worked just fine. I thought everyone knew that trick since I'm an F-tard when it comes to tools and even I knew that. lol

Percy's standard header gaskets for $15. a pair are not nearly as good as their dead soft aluminum gaskets that are $34.95 even though they advertise them being able to withstand 2000*. I prefer the "dead soft" gaskets myself. mark
i have the dead soft ones tooo.... hmmmm..

I just gotback from Pep Boys, I will also try and add some "band clamps" to the muffler u-clamps which are also leaking (Water this time, so easy to see). Also picked up RTV gasket remover and will remove and re-apply (per MRT recommendation) and tighten both with the impact wrench and hand sockets.
i used a chrome 12 mm short socket on a impact on saturday andthe socketburst... the driveshaft bolts are frozen on there... i would not reccommend non impact sockets for frozen bolts... do they make a 12 point 12mm impact socket? i have only seen 6 point sockets in impact...

I must be an f-tard too newb2000gt because I'm having a hard time visualizing what youare saying to do. If you could help me out, I'd like to know for next time.

Yeah, my bolts aren't frozen, but was using it to tighten which may as well be the same thing. It help up though, and I figure if I break it, I'll walk it over to Sears and get a new one...

I have not seen 12pt impact sockets, but the last "age old" debate I've read concluded that 6pt was better. 12pt was better in that you have more flexibility for the wrench/socket to engage, but for actual turning, 6pt gives more surface area/grip for turning (let's see if this starts another debate. I'm no expert by far, but makes sense to me)..
