The 99+ cobras do not have forged internals, only a steel crank.
The mach 1 cars only come with a forged crank in the manuals, the automatics have a cast one like the GT.
I have also heard that the mach 1s have a slightly different cam profile and head porting setup.
A mach 1 will definatly outrun a the 4v cobras (except the FI ones). The cobras weigh more, have and IRS, and have a 3.27 gear ratio.

the mach 1 motors have forged cranks, while the 99+ Cobra motors have all forged internals, so the motor will be able to handle just about anything you decide to do to it.

from what i understand the cobra and mach have the same head but the cam is a bit more aggressive in the cobra. the differences between the two areminimal but they almost equal themselves out. the cobra having IRS vs the mach having a higher comp. ratio which is bad for boost if you ever decide to go that route and a few others but i really dont feel like typing that much. the only real good thing that came out of the 99-01 cobra was that it has the 4v. regardless they are both great cars and seem to hold their value somewhat. i personally would go with the cobra just because it is a cobra,
i dont really see that happening. the mach may have a slightly lower gear but that doesnt mean its loads faster. it would be a very close race. it would honestly be a drivers race.

i would pick a mach 1 over the cobras, but not over the 03 04 cobras. But then again, if you put an aftermarket supercharger in the mach, it'll probably be faster than the 03 04

if you like SN95 new edge styling, yea look for the Mach 1, if you like SN95 styling go for the 96-98 cobra. There isn't many differences other than lookwise. The 96-98 cobras had some wierd thing in the intake like IMRC or IMCR, something like that, i dno if someone else can elaborate on that but i read it in my SHM book. I'm personally looking for a 96-98 motor because the teksid block, because i dont know if ill ever want to make big power out of it or not so, and i like how uncommon the sn95 style is compared to new edge sn95 cars.
