CAR SHUTS OFF ON ME AT 120 MPH!

RE: CAR SHUTS OFF ON ME AT 120 MPH!
How does it lock?
I go put my ignition in the on position and let my car stall out and the steering doesn't lock? Neither of my Mustangs lock with the ignition in the on position.

I doubt it, at those speeds with these aerodynamic pigs called Mustangs they lose speed quickly in neutral at 100+mph. (yeah, so?) If that were the case, there would be Mustangs cutting out right after the traps every pass @ the track. (but most people dont push in the clutch and coast after a run, and/or have a proper tune)
It's possible, but I'd believe it be the IAC more than anything.

Its probably MAF wash at those speeds. If it stalls all the time when going slow then its IAC. If you get too much air blowing into the MAF strange things will happen when you let off the gas.

He did say it has happened at slower speeds.
JGorm, is MAF wash were a legitimate issue, many people would be stalling out when coming down in the rpm's in 5th gear from 100+MPH runs. Also, why wouldn't more people simply shifting gears at high speeds not have this issue and stall out? Just a little food for thought.
I see where you are coming from, it's a possibility, but very very slim.

In gear, off the gas, the maf is not (usually) used by the ECU. Also, why wouldn't more people simply shifting gears at high speeds not have this issue and stall out? It takes a super slow shift to set the car into idle mode. Just a little food for thought.

I guess you have never seen this problem before. MAF wash is near impossible with the stock intake system because the air intake is way up high and the maf is farther away. Its much more common with ram air intakes (especially homemade ones) as well as the CAIs that stick the MAF on the end of the filter in the front bumper behind the fog lights. Its also can be caused by crappy tunes where the IAC values are not set right. Either way its not that common, I thought i just throw it out there.

Damn, that's dangerous!.. Be careful not to let your steering wheel lock up on you! Get that problem fixed because it's a disaster waiting to happen.
