Default Rear Brake Upgrades

So I want to get rid of those dinky little rear brakes on my car and upgrade them to a larger disk and a nice, painted 2-4 piston caliper. Who makes good rear mustang brakes? I'm looking at brembo and baer right now; What do you suggest?

Brembo, Baer, Wilwood, just about any company that makes aftermarket brakes makes them for 99-04 mustangs too. What you're looking at will be relatively expensive though, just as my warning.

I would go with the baer brakes. I have worked in a couple of performance shops in San Diego, Ca and they seem to be of the best quality to me. I am not satisfied with the the wilwood brakes, however they will save you a little weight.

Brembo does not make a set up for the back brakes .

Thats bad news because I have the Saleen (brembos) up front and would like to have a consistant feel to my car. I feel it ricish to mix and match similar parts from different brands.

The bullitt/cobra/mach 1 brake upgrade is about 400 bucks. With any of the upgrades unforunatly you have to remove the axles from the rearend.

+1

Any true brake up-grade will require the removal of the axles in order to replace the rear caliper backing plate. This requires dropping the rear dif cover and removal of the axle c-clips.
I think that there is an aftermarket kit that will sell you larger rear rotors using the factory rear calipers and an adapter for mounting the calipers. I personally have issues with this aftermarket kit, but it's out there.

I mentioned in a later post that I have the Saleen Brembos. Read the thread.
