rear sway bar
i drive a vert, so im always looking for ways to shed a few pounds here and there to make up for it. would it be a bad idea to remove my rear sway bar? i know it wont handle as well(as i found that out when i removed my front sway bar) but could i potentially hurt anything such as the axels, or hurt my launch? i dont know if the sway bar helps to support the axels, or anything of that sort??
thanks

RE: rear sway bar
Dont remove your swaybars..... it helps with the rigidity of the frame for launching and for cornering and are really needed in a vert for stability... You can get a lighter sway bar.. but really other than finding a lighter k-member, sway bars, etc, your not going to loose pounds in the suspension... to drop weight you have to pretty much gut the car...

RE: rear sway bar
I have a '99 convertible and it has a rear sway bar. I would not remove any of them. I am looking for better sway bars and ways to make my car more solid and handle better. If it is strictly a track car I guess it would not matter but for the street I want as much control as possible. Mark

RE: rear sway bar
If you remove the rear swaybar your launch will suck along with your cornering. The rear swaybar keeps both wheels planted and without it one tire will lift off of the ground. Don't remove your front swaybar unless you have coilovers in the front. You will be very unstable and if you are lowered you will rub in turns and braking.
If you want to remove weight you just need to buy lighter parts to change out for stock not just remove stuff.

RE: rear sway bar
I guess I was sort of being a smartass, and I don't want to go overboard w/ this, but it's called a Torsion bar, which helps the rear suspension from binding on launches/turning by only allowing a minute amount of travel...
Taking it off isn't the best idea, since you have a 'Vert, which is susceptible to a lot more unwanted lateral/axial movement, especially at highway speeds.. Stability...
