Theft Light? Car won't start?
Here comes the life story, which is probably uncessary to access the problem. I'm at the shooting range with a buddy shootin skeet with the 12guage, and we decide its quitin time and pack it up.
I stopped the car, killed it, e-break, same stuff I always do. We get out, and I lock it. After we're ready to leave...I put the key in, and the factory "THEFT" light is flashing extremely fast. It caught my attention...it normally just blinks very slowly, and I thought it was just a useless light to help shy criminals away.
Lights blinking fast. Car wont start. It sputterd, and then died. Then wouldnt get any fire at all. I tried just letting it sit...waited about 15 minutes, still wouldnt start. I went and found a wrench and disconnected the battery. Waited a few minutes, hooked it back up and the car started right up.
Ford dealer was useless when I called. I just wanted to know what purpose that THEFT light serves and what would make it keep the car from starting. They said they had no clue I'd have to bring the car in. I just wanted a general jist of it... Maybe one of you guys can answer that one as well.

RE: Theft Light? Car won't start?
The theft light is for the PATS information... the anti theft security system in your cluster and your key... If the sensor in the dash does not match the chip in your key it will not start thinking it has the wrong keys. Apparantly is was an electrical problem of some sort... I wouldnt worry to much unless it happens again... then you will need to take ot to the dealership and have them look at it, they would probably put in a new cluster and give you new keys, the dealership is the only people who can do this work to my knowledge... my advice if it happens again... buy a cluster on ebay for $100.00 or so and THEN take it to the dealership and have it re-keyed... would probably be cheaper.
