Default Hypertech Tune....

Hey guys, gonna mess around with this hypertech power programmer III in the morning, just wondering if anyone else has this. I'm not exactly sure how this thing is suppose to add the "15-20 hp on the dyno" it says it does. You can adjust the engine fan turn on temp, i believe the factory is 195, you can go down to 180, but it says you need to buy a hyperstat, i wonder if this is a MUST? Im really just looking for some tune pointers from you guys, should i adjust the temp? should i adjust the rev limiter and top speed? Thanks guys

About the hyperstat..... its just a high priced thermostat.

Go to advance auto parts and ask for a stant p#13398. Its $6.18.
The factory replacement part number for a 03 4.6 is 13399. The 9 represents 195 degree. A 13398 is other wise the same other than 180 degree.

What else can you do with that Hypertech aside from the fans? That itself wont increase any power...

hate to say it, but the Hypertech tuner is basically junk. Poor software, bad parameter support...

The performance tune in it advances the timing somewhat I believe. Thats why it says run premium gas. The hypertech is not junk, its good for adjusting speedometer for diff gear ratios/tire sizes. It just doesn't have nearly as many adjustable parameters as a predator or sct does.

Sorry, but I don't see the point in paying $350 for a 'tuner' that doesn't do a whole lot of anything comparatively. If you need to adjust your speedo (gears, rim/tire combos, etc), they sell this thing called a SpeedCal, $89.99 from DallasMustang.com... Fans and electronics? Buy a Predator... I can do all that, including MIL Elimination, OBDII Shutoff, idle RPM, speedo recal, rev limit changes, fan operation changes (low and high fans, on and off temps), AND have a full-function tuner with datalog and updated program support.

the hypertech tuner sucks. i actually dynoed less on the dyno with it. The car pings unless you have there special thermostat... personally i will never install their tune again. i use it for fixxing the speedo with my 4.10s thats it.

I hope no one actually pays the listed price. It definitely has it's short comings and is good for only a handful of performance upgrades as has been stated earlier.
