dont fear the gear, go 4:56

Also keep in mind... alot of people who yell don't fear the gear or go 4.10s may be driving a 01.5 + car with a 3650 tranny.. their 5th gear is somewhat higher. 4.10s w/ a 3650 turns about the same rpms as 3.73s w/ a t45 in 5th.
I have 4.10s but thats with a 3650... I wouldn't want it any lower for highway driving. I'd suggest 3.73s or a motive 3.90 gear. ETs will change little if any between a 3.73 and a 4.10 gear anyways...
also keep in mind low gears + street tires = tire smoke. If your looking to cut some good times you'll need some new tires too..
Sure lower gears feel faster because your car pulls harder in higher gears.. well all your doing is lowering the gear ratio... Your car "pulls " harder in 3rd than 5th too but you don't drive around in 3rd all the time. Gears help you off the line ... if you don't use them there your not going to get much out of them..

They don't affect the wear on your engine, you affect the wear on your engine. They will make the car pull harder, but ultimately it depends on the driver. If you drive it soft now, then get gears and hammer it, then sure you'll end up with more wear, but that's because of how you're driving it (of course it will be a lot more tempting to hammer it once you have gears).

when people say things like this ask them what gear ratio is in their car and how much driving they do.. don't be stupid your car would turn 2900 rpms at 65 mph with 4.56s. It will turn 2337 @ 65 with 4.10s 2233 @ 65 with 3.90s and 2126 @65 with 3.73s.
