Bought my car from a dealer so couldnt talk to previous owner.
some stuff has been modded e.g. air silencer mod
The suspension has been done and wide wheels and tires.

When i looked at the axle it looks like the differential cover might be aftermarket as it it a dull silver color.

Am I wrong?

I am interested in some 4.10s or maybe 4.30s as I will only drive the stang on weekends and have no interest in ever trying to go over 120mph!
I was wondering if someone might have already installed some gears? How could I tell?
I dont know any other stang owners soI couldnt compare against another stang.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

jack it up and count the # of turns the driveshaft has to make compared to the wheel making one turn

if you can "safely" jack up the rear end you can check by turning your back tire one full rotation and counting how many times the drive shaft turns...for example with stock gears (3.27) you should have roughly 3 point 27 drive shaft rotations for one full tire rotation

Use the gear calculator, it is pretty accurate so long as you make the correct inputs. As for the diff. cover, that could have just been changed without the gear swap.

I was in the same situation you were in. I got suspcious when I beat my friends z28. Also when I drove a previous GT test driving I got a feel for the car, jumped in this one. Way diffrent story. Took it to the shop recently and they verified aftermarket gears. 3.73s.

i agree, my stock bullits are nice but if i upgrade im going to get something chrome


and if you get gears get at least 4.10's since its a weekend car

i have my personal reasons why i havent and probably will not get gears on my gt but if i did they would be 3.73's or 3.90's
