Do I need new gaskets?

Do I need new gaskets?
When I replace my stock headers with a set of long tube BBK's, do I need to purchase a new set of gaskets, or will the stock ones do me fine? Also, this weekend I'm going to TRY and install them, so any tips, tricks, or installation requirements I need before I start. I'd hate to goto the Auto Shop on base and be half way done with the install only to find out I need something else!

RE: Do I need new gaskets?
it's always good to relpace gaskets. there's a chance they MIGHT be re-usable, but don't put yourself in that situation. also, you said you planned on doing some headwork that would require a shop's handywork. they'll have to remove your headers to do this, a good shop would be happy to replace them with performance headers if you buy them from them, or provide them on your own.

Dang BC, I dunno if I can add anything more but I'll try. Don't forget with the longtubes you'll need to replace the mid-pipe too... the stock gaskets are usually reusable, I was far better off using my stock gaskets than what Mac sent with my headers... but then again your car is now almost 5 years old so you never know. Have you decided if your going to drop the k-member or try to get at it with just jacking the engine and removing the mounts?

I know dropping the K-member is a 'tad' difficult, as me and my buddies back home have found out. One question I have, what would be the best way to install my headers. Do you think I can actually do it just by removing the mounts and moving the engine side to side.

When my buddy and I were removing his K-member off his 5.0, we chained the coils together on the K-member so they wouldn't spring out. Is this a good safe keeping habit or should I not be worried about it?

i think you did a good job adding. you always do, if you don't beat everyone else to the punch.

Id replace the gaskets, why not they are only like 20 bucks, its easier than using the old ones and finding out they leak and having to do it over again. When I did my headers my gaskets were trashed, although my car is like 5 years older.
BTW, whats the advantage to long tube headers over shortys?

RE: Do I need new gaskets?
Long Tube headers generate more horsepower and torque over shorties, but sometimes they lose heat and if you have them, the c convertors will not get hot enough to work. At least that's what happened on my truck about 4 years ago. I didn't pass emissions cause I had a set of long tube headers. But they are soooo worth it. (back me up if i'm right, at least that's what I concluded from the failure)
