Default How hard is it to remove heads?

I am looking into getting my heads proffesionaly ported and need to know how difficult it is to port and polish the heads.
Also will I need to get tuned once they are ported?

it takes a skilled mechanic to do a good port/polish job and it will cost a lot of money (1000+). I would probably look at buying a new set of heads specific for your application.

Ive see people do heads for 600... but a g/j on PI is just about as good as an aftermarket head - in fact I think thats what most of them are - worked over heads... but it all depends on who can find in your area - that you trust, buying heads would certainly be better than having shadetree mechanic do it

You can port and polish them yourself but there is no garantee how they will turn out. I found a guy here that does it for $600 and it takes him about 2 weeks. If a beginer mech does it the best you can really do is gasket match the ports and clean up some casting flaws. Best to just pay to have them done or buy them.

Yes you can do them yourself. You can also f**k them up too. One little slip and zingo LOL. If you have a good dremel kit, patience, and are very picky about your work try it. There is a write up in tech i think on how to do it. Worse thing you can do is screw em up and have to buy a set allready done.
