It's only as reliable if it was taken care of...like any car.

However you'll probablyhave to deal with typical Ford problems, like IAC/TPS & Throw-out bearing issues. All being simple, but annoying.

To give another frame of reference.. I had nearly 160k miles on mine, and the only issues I had were w/ the rear axle, and fuel pump.. Oh, and as mentioned, the plastic intake was crap...

Other than that, I only really spent money on mods..

Get it inspected by a good mechanic before you buy a car that old.

Ive got 112000 on mine and she still runs awsome. Just take care of it and youll be fine. If you know a good tech have them look everything over first. You never know what the last owner did to it. Ive only had to change my intake manifold, a coil, a clutch and thats it. Good luck to ya.

I have a 96 and i'm the original owner, so far the only parts failure i have had was a $50 IAC and thats it. My car has performed perfect for the 11years i have owned it. My neighbor went out and bought a 97 because he liked mine and is getting ready to turn 300,000 miles and it still purrs. Just take care of them and they will last.

I have had 2 Thunderbirds with an NPI 4.6 in it. I sold one at over 200k with just replacing the wiring pigtail for the alternator and the POS transmission. Sold the car because the front suspension was beat to hell (pizza delivery) but that has nothing to do with the motor. I still own the other and it has 170k on it. Needs O2 sensors and tires and it will once again be the daily driver.

Did you find your manifold at a good price? Or did you break down and call ford back?
