alright yay another one of these threads. don't waste your time shifting it. the computer tells the transmission when to shift. this means you interfering with that can really not very possibly have positive gains at all. best case scenario: you shift it right before the computer would have told it to had it been in drive and lose little to no time. worst case scenario: you wait too long and lose time because of it. either way, you're fighting a losing battle and the best you can possibly do is break even.

he's not hurting anything when shifting it manually. When you shift through the gears manually, even if you are not flooring it, the trans will shift as if you were flooring it. It applys full line pressure. And is actually easier on your clutches, therefore theoroticly (sp) is easier on your trans.
BEFORE I got my transgo kit, I couldnt chirp second leaving it in drive. But I could if I shifted it myself.
EDIT: Like Dan said, it is not going to make you go faster. You are better off racing someone by leaving it in drive.

For slushbox racing just put your left foot on the brake accelerate with the right to the point where your tires start to spin then release the left and off you go. Don't let the tires spin cause your gonna burnout too much. Leave the stick on drive with the overdrive off. If you need the overdrive push the button at 5500 rpm. Works like a charm. But honestly, don't street race is not worth the risk. Pay a few bucks and go to the track is more fun.

Hate to tell you, when you do that enough, you WILL incur problems. Happened to me TWICE in my younger years and my parents were PISSED. All do to shifting the automatic manually. If automatics were meant to be shifted manually, then why would they make cars with an autostick option, like in the dodges??
