Cam Shaft Position Sensor Problem

Cam Shaft Position Sensor Problem
My check engine light turned on...I scanned it and code P0340 came up...which is the cam shaft position sensor. I went to the dealership and bought a new one, put it on, and cleared the code. I drove less than 100 miles and the lightcame back on. I scanned it again and the same code came up (P0340).WhenI start it up it will start, backfire then shut off. Upon re start, its fine. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the Cam Shaft sensor or not. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I don't have any aftermarket parts on my car...just an x-pipe and cold air intake

RE: Cam Shaft Position Sensor Problem
My car threw the same code last week. $12, a loosened bolt and 5 minutes later I was good to go. Methinx it's a bad or corroded conection. Go to a junkyard and splice another conector on.

RE: Cam Shaft Position Sensor Problem
let me save you alot of trouble. if it's not the harness itself, it's most likely the alternator that's interfering with the signal from the cps due to a bad regulator or diode. so have the alternator rebuilt or replaced and you should be on your way.
