Default Soap for belt squeek?

I think i read that rubbing soap on the belt will stop belt squeek. Does this actually work? And if so can i just put the soap against the belt while its on so that all of it gets covered? or rub it on before i start the car? If soap is not a good way to get rid of belt squeek what is?

Yes, it will stop the squeak for a little while.. Just hold the bar while the car is running.. But just buy a new damn belt.. $40 is cheap..

Best way to rid the squeek is to buy a new belt.

That's onlya temp fix. You shouldn't fool around with that at all especially in the winter. IMO...

I just bought the car less than 2 weeks ago and it has 60k miles. The guy didnt have the belts and things that are supposed to be replaced at 50k done...so i am stuck with doing that. I just havent had any time between work, school, and bball practice to get to a place to get it done.

Just looking for a quick fix.

Take a 1/2 ratchet/breaker bar, take it to advance, autozone, o'reilly.. wherever.. Buy a new one, then go outside and swap it out..
