My 5.4 2v project....
Ok i just found out last night that my stepdad is only giving me about $1000 the rest is going to have to come out of pocket....now this is supposed to be a budget build right now anyways so i think i should be straght. The block has 1997 on the valve covers so i assume its a 97 or 98 model. Does this year come with the steel crank like the 99+ 5.4s? If so would i be fine with just getting some forged pistons and rods seeing as how im just doing .20 or .30 over? i know i need the adapter plates from reichard racing. Also since im going to have apart anyways i am going to try and get some head work done depending on how my money last. Would it be better to just get some used stage 1 cams and then just do the head work and everything later? like i said this is a budget build right now i just want to get the motor in before i dont have time to do it at all. i just want to have a nice platform. Please input thanks in advance.[/align]

If you're worrying about the cost skip the cams/head workall together. Just focus on getting the motor built and installed. Its the little things that add up in the end. Save the head work until its in and running and you can see how it performs. The choose a cam etc.

The 97-98 have a forged crank. Which sucks that I have the 99 but I also have an extra set of pi heads now. What are you going to do for exhaust? With out fab work stock manifolds are pretty much all that will work with that stock k-member. Remember also with more displacement it will seem like less cam.

so then i should just stick with the .20over and just try and find some used cams? Thats nice to know now all i have to do is buy rods and pistons. As for the exhaust im just going to keep what i have except im probably going to get some cats welded on of have some removable ones made when i get my x pipe modded to fit.
