Default going to to my own

i think that i am going to install my own gears when i take my car out of storage

anyone else tried it, i have a friend and a cousin that went to community college for mechanics and i think i can get them to help for a case of beer

i will let u guys know how it goes, i just didn;t like the $300 estimate that i got to have it done downtown

also, how hard is it to change out my cams

I did my own 4.10 swap and it took me 2 days because I also replaced all the bearings including axle bearings. If youre going to be replacing bearings, make sure you have a press or a good extractor. To mount the new bearings I just stuck em in a small oven (like a small toaster oven) let it heat up for around 20 min then grabbed them with some plyers and they just dropped right into place. Problem was removing them, had to use a torch to heat up the bearing and then an extractor. You will need a Micronmeter (thinks thats the name) to measure your shims to set the pinion depth and also a Magnetic base Dial indicator to measure backlash when done (.008-.015 is 8.8 diff backlash) I set mine at .012, not too loose and not too tight, I've had no whine or problems. There is a nice write up on gear swap that helped me out alot, will try to find it and post it here.

i did it myself in about 6 hours, if you follow those instructions stay with ford gears you should be great... i have over 4k on my 4.10s no whine no vibes no problems.... the female torx was the hardest tool to find for some reason
