Will shifting manually in an automatic make any difference ? is it possible to downshift in an automatic to get the stang to growl like the ones with the manual trannys ?

I'm just curious, cause if I cant get my pipes to growl like a manual or if I cant get power out of my automatic, I'm gonna just trade it or something

well, yah its possible....because technically your dropping into a lower hear just like a std tranny, but then again, on the aode trannys (all 94-98 automatic...well the gt's have the same EXACT tranny with a different code...something like 4w70 something...i cant remember)

basically.....the AUTO transmission in the 94-newer GT's is VERY STRONG. stock it can handle upwards of 400hp all day....but it wears them out FAST from shifting them manually.....the best time to use it is when you wanna do a break stand and not have to have the tranny shift into 3rd or 4th and bog the engine...so hold it in 1st.....hit 2nd and leave it there....

but for racinging wise...leave it in drive....it will shift at the point where the power dies off IN THE SAME SPOT ever TIME!

CONSISTANT

An auto with a **** kit will own 5-speeds. Consistancy is the key to drag racing!

most shift kits you can downshift at any speed. that can be good and bad.... good if your the owner of the car and know it can do that, and bad if your brother borrows your car and doesnt know it can do that!!!

yah, last weeknd I let my 30 year old bro borrow my car --- bad idea[sm=badidea.gif] He said he almost put it in a ditch cuz he thought he can just downshift into 1st and it wouldnt go in till he was going slow enough!! he claims he was doing 30..... ouch! i am never letting him or nor any other family member drive it again!

I'm not sure what you're trying to ask but, it can wear on parts in the auto if you manually shift it. The clutch especially. There's really not a reason to manually shift it. The car is going to shift by the computer, not by you putting it in gear.

97Stang, what are you talking about? You don't need a shift kit to downshift an auto. Is that what you're saying?

manually shifting an auto is worse than just leaving it in drive. My friend with a stock auto gt ran a 14.8 manually shifting and a 14.6 leaving it in drive.

That's me, but it was actually 14.9-15.1 manually shifting, 14.6 in drive all day long.

If you really want total control over your auto get a manual valve body and a shift kit and a good ratchet shifter from B&M, if you don't mind shifting all the time. It's really only recommended for drag, but you know, if that's what you want, go for it.
