RE: H pipe or X pipe
H pipes - classic muscle car sound
X pipe - more "raspy", race car type sound
the hp differences are so minimal just buy bassed upon sound
having said that i personaly perfer the way Xpipes sound.

The H pipe will be a little deeper with the "muscle car" sound as previously mentioned and the X pipe gives a more raspy, throaty sound. I have found that the X-pipes are generally a little louder than the H pipe (off-road pipes that is). I have used both and my o/r X with 40 series flowmasters is a bit louder.

^^ hits the nail on the head. But i have heard X and H side by side and X is definately without a dout louder. As far as the power its a 1-2 hp difference.
I have heard that H gives more downlow torque but losses up high. X losses some down low torque where it gains more up high. Honestly i noticed a difference up high when i installed my o/r X.
You should choose your midpipe based more on what kind of cat-back you are getting.
