but how many quarts of oil do you guys really use? Some people suggest 5 while I hear some stated 6-7. I was just wondering how many you guys do use?

when i did my oil change i used almost 6, like 5 1/2-5 3/4

our cars require 6 quarts but if you drain it fully you'll be looking at 6 1/2 qts... dunno why anyone would suggest 5 qts tho

I use six in my 04 GT.I don't go by dipstick indications either.Fill the engine with six quarts and start it up.Ihold the gas pedal down on the floor and crank the engine to fill the filter until the guage reads pressure,then start it up.This makes sure there ain't no unlubed start-up's after the oil change.Let the engine sit for about thirty minutes and look at the dipstick level.You can make a mark with a scribe or center punch to record the actual "full" level.You can also mark the level right after shutdown to show "full" when you don't want to wait for the oil to drainback into the pan.

my mechanic told me 5 1/2 so i bought 6 qts of shell syntheic? should i put in the full 6 qts?

the 4.6's use different amounts of oil depending on the model year. My 00 uses 5 quarts. Not sure when they switched it to 6.

they switched in mid 01 thats why 99s and 00 use 5 while the later models use 6 or more
