Default Brake Upgrading....

I've already upgraded my GT front brakes to a 13 inch Cobra Brake setup. But my rear breaks are still the stock GT. I saved a few hundred dollars by just going with the front brakes since most of your stopping power is in the front.

But for the rear.... is there any difference betweenGT and Cobra REAR breaks and what do you recommend for some rear brakes? Or just upgrade the rotors and pads?

I believe the Cobra upgraded rear brake kit just contains a slightly larger rotor. I think it is the same caliper as the GT. I'm upgrading the rear to the 10th anniversary Cobra kit I want to have it match the upgrade I did to the front brakes.

Yeah the caliper is the same. The rotor is larger and vented which is nice. I completely destroyed my stock brakes on the highway in about 20min. The rear rotors heated up and warped so bad they destroyed the calipers. The vented rotors stay a bit cooler and are a good idea imo. I havent seen the brackets for salethat you would need to use larger rotors separately though.

I never looked for 10" vented replacement rotor though, maybe they're out there.

Rear brakes, function the same, and components are the same, but remember, the backing plate, which is what makes these different than GT brakes, is the only difference...

The frame of reference, my father always taught me was... You didn't skimp out on the engine, did you?? Then why skimp anywhere else??

I am not going to bother messing with the rear brakes, just going to get a set of nice brake pads and rotors and then paint the calipers.

The rear brakes don't to much anyway. Unless your really into road racing just save the 400+ bucks for something else. not to mention that to do the cobra conversion you have to pull the rearend apart.

The only way I can see upgrading the brakes on the back is if you have to pull the rearend apart anyway, and you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

+1

I also saw on americanmuscle that some of the DD setups also seem to have trouble with the cobra stuff, but I dunno how true this is.

If I am not mistaken, the Bullitt has the Cobra/Brembo setup stock. I have no issues with my DD at all.

Going faster>Stopping faster

It takes money to do both, so choose wisely
