Default Need help with a 97 4.6L

We are in the process of trying to fit a 97 cougar 4.6 into a 97 stang with a 3.8.

The 3.8 through a rod, so we needed a motor.

We were told by a local wrecker that the cougar motor would work. We got the runnig cougar motor, ecm, harness, tranny, and rad for 500$.

Cheapest 3.8 we could find was 2500$

So we decided to give the 4.6 a try.

Its now in my uncles shop and things dont appear to be lining up. The K-frame is supposed to be the same.

Is it possible the actual mounts on the engine are different, or is the cougar 4.6 just different altogether?

Any help, links, phone numbers, tips or whatever someone could add would be greately appreciated.

Been searching for this one three days with no luck.

Thanks

the 3.8 was a pushrod and the 4.6 is a modular...2 entirely different family's...you would have been better of swapping in a 5.0 liter engine as more would have matched up.

try here for info...

Thanks for the reply.

I've confirmed that the K-frames on a 1997 Mustang3.8 and 4.6 are identical. Only if you have a 95 do you need to chage th K-frame.

Our concern is, the 4.6 we have came our of a 97 cougar, and doesnt seem to be lining up.

Do you think we can simply by some mustang motor mounts an bolt them on to the 4.6?

Thanks again for the help.

i would say that the mounts are different, there are many types so that is probably the problem

Guess I'll give mounts a try and cross my fingers that a cougar 4.6 is actually the same as a GT one.
