Default Head gasket leak... so now what!!

well i broke an exhaust manifold stud off putting my x-pipes on, so yesterday i threw it on the lift and decided to heat up the manifold and cross my fingers to get it out!.. well i didnt really have the best of luck on that one!! as i started pulling the starter and manifold i noticed a slight oil leak out of my head gasket! so i guess im going to pull the head and do that considering im running nitrous and what not, plus i dont like leaks... anyway my delema is this... where do i go from here! there is no way in hell im going to pull off the heads of this car and leave it stock! but i also dont have a bottomless budget. any suggestions on where i should go with this ripped apart that is semi-cost effective?im new to the modular motors.....thanks!

You won't have any problems to run Nos with a slightly leaking head gasket. It does not increase your compression like everyone thinks it does like S/C'ers do! I would leave it unless you have low miles and rebuild a whole new motor when something does happen. I wanted to doa PI swap on a perfect running motor with 75kmi, but it wasn;t worth all that hassle! You might be able to drill the center of the stud out with a tiny drill bit and use an easy-out!

well i was looking at it two ways and i understand what your saying... but leaks only get worse, and it was a big enough pain in the a$$ to pull the exhaust manifold alone, i was just compelled to make something of my time! i didnt feel like saying 5 months down the road" man i wish i would have done that. oh well i am just so torn and yes my original decision was to pull the manifold and just tap the damn broken stud out, however i was thinking too while iw as there to put in the shortie headers!

Fix the stud, drive it with a slight leaky gasket. Then save your change and buy a 99/01 cobra motor. Theyre cheaper then the 03/04s

A leaking headgasket can't really do too much for performance unless your coolant is crossing into your oil and you would be able to tell that with smoke pumpin out your exhaust. I drove a 93 **** Probe for 65kmi with a leaking seal and headgasket. Never had any problems other than just an oil leak. It ran like a top! If you had a pushrod motor I would say fix it, but that's a lot of work to be doing to fix your peace of mind

maybe i was just being the over-achiever for the day, its just soo tempting to want more! i have a mixed crowd of the local guys saying drive it with the juice, or tear that s.o.b. down and port the heads blah blah blah... but it would be nice to have the damn thing this century!
