Default High stall? How high?

Ive decided to go with an auto stang, and will be checkin it out next week. Since the auto tranny robs more hp than the 5-spd, the first mod i plan is a high-stall. Question is, how high? This car will still be my DD, so i dont wanna stall too high, just enough to stay in the powerband. Something reasonable. Ive heard 2800-3000 is ok? Torque converter may be outta the question since i dont wanna super hard and violent shift every single time, ya know?

Hopefully my question is clear and im makin sense. If not, lemme know where my stang logic went wrong, lol.

honestly the last mod you should do should be the stall. This way you get the car dyno tuned and you see where your peak rpms are. This helps decide on what stall to get. Do your other mods first, such as gears, shift kit, tranny cooler that will help the aode

Since you have a lock up converter you can go higher than a regular converter. I would not even bother with anything less than 3000 rpm. I run 4000 in my SS and have used it as a dd when I had to. BTW a converter will not affect the shift firmness, that's what a valve body or shift kit will do. Also I dis-agree with the guy who said a converter is the last thing you should do. IMO if more guys would but a decent converter auto Stangs would not have such a bad rap.

yeah i totally agree with you, but if you do any major mods such as heads/cams/intake that stall should be set at a different one than it currently is...either way a stall is a GREAT mod for all autos

Think you meant 94 instead of 04, common mistake................. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_AOD_transmission
